iDEAL Payments on Invoices for the Netherlands

iDEAL is by far the most common online payment method in the Netherlands. With GrandTotal you can offer iDEAL directly via a Stripe QR code on the invoice. Because Stripe QR codes accept card payments by default, you can explicitly enforce cheaper methods such as iDEAL or SEPA – individually or combined – to keep transaction fees low.

How it works

1. Create a Stripe account (free, no monthly fee)
2. Activate iDEAL in the Stripe dashboard
3. Enter your Stripe API key in GrandTotal under Settings › Identification › Stripe
4. In the Layout Editor, drag the Stripe QR code from the toolbar onto the invoice

Avoid card fees

Without adjustment, the Stripe checkout page offers every method active in your account – including card payments, which are the most expensive for you as recipient. To the right of the API key field, the … menu opens a dialog with the options Enforce iDEAL payments and Enforce SEPA payments. This narrows the offered methods to the cheap variants. Both options can be combined – the customer then sees exactly the selection that keeps your fees low.

Automatic payment matching

GrandTotal regularly polls Stripe for received payments and automatically marks the corresponding invoices as paid. This removes the manual reconciliation against bank statements for every payment processed through Stripe.

Costs

Stripe charges per transaction, with no monthly fee. iDEAL payments are typically much cheaper than card payments because there are no percentage-based fees on the transaction volume. Current rates are listed on stripe.com/nl/pricing.
